Here We Go Info:
Phoenix, Arizona
Game Information:
The
Pittsburgh Steelers
kick-off the pre-season by traveling to Arizona for the 1st game at
brand-new, sold out, 63,000 Cardinals Stadium in suburban Glendale
Arizona. While a pre-season game is a relaxed occasion for the most
passionate
fan, the fact that it is the Peter Eisenman designed stadium's opening
game means that Steelers Cardinals tickets will be hard to come by.
Steelers fans will use this as an opportunity to get acquainted with
Cardinals stadium. The Steelers will play the Cardinals again
in
the 2007 regular season and Cardinals Stadium will be the host for
Super Bowl XLII on February 3, 2008.
Arizona
Cardinals Game

The game is a box office sellout, a new position
for the Cardinals, who were last in the NFL in attendance last season.
Interest in Steelers Cardinals tickets is high because of the interest
of Pittsburgh Steelers fans and because it is the 1st game in the
Cardinals new stadium.

Arizona
Cardinals Glendale Stadium:
This game is opening day for the
Peter Eisenman-designed Caridnals Stadium that boasts a retractable
roof AND the 1st-ever retractable field in the United States. The
stadium, located in Glendale on the west side of the Phoenix
metro-area, will allow the city to continue to host national sporting
events, including Super Bowl XLII and the annual Tostitos Fiesta Bowl,
part of the Bowl Championship series.
Fans who attended games at Sun Devil Stadium will appreciate being
shielded from the sun and trading in bleacher-style seating for
traditional stadium seats. Luxury seating options, such as suites and
club seats, which were non-existent at Sun Devil Stadium, wil have a
significant presence at Cardinals Stadium. The new stadium will also
boast many more options for food and merchandise, and of course,
restrooms.
Arizona
Cardinals Tailgating:

Everything
you know about going to tailgating with the Cardinals is wrong! No more
game day bar crawls along Mill Avenue in Tempe, the Cardinals have
moved to the west side of Phoenix. The tailgate for the August 12 game
will be the first, an opportunity for Steelers fans to be a part of
establishing the new Arizona Cardinals tailgating traditions.
While we don't know what will actually happen, here are a few educated
guesses:
Unlike Sun Devil Stadium, Cardinals Stadium will be surrounded by a
significant amount of parking, approximately 14,000
spaces in close proximity. This will be much more
accomodating to tailgaters than Sun Devil Stadium, particularly for
evening games and late season games.
One promising feature of the site plan is The Great Lawn at Sportsman's Park,
located from 95th Avenue to the 101 Loop at the Southwestern corner of
the stadium. This wide-open grassy space is being billed as
tailgate central and promises to be a comfortable gathering point for
fans before the game, and the Cardinals plan to host pre-game
entertainment and vendors.
Keep in mind that the Arizona Cardinals have banned grills in the
parking lots around Glendale Stadium. Gas and electric grills
will be allowed in Sportsman's Park. Charcoal grills are prohibited. It
is unclear how strictly this policy will be enforced.
Finally, as the development of the Westgate City Center develops, it
promises to become a vibrant game day atmosphere similar to that found
at Station Square in Pittsburgh.
About
The Arizona Cardinals:
Coach:
Dennis Green
2006 Record: 5 wins 11 losses
Key Off Season Acquisitions: Edgerrin James, Matt Leinhart
With a new stadium, a former Heisman Trophy winning draft pick and
Edgerrin James to complement talented young receivers, there is new
optimism for a franchise that hopes to establish a new identity in 2006.
After being last in the NFL in home attendance by more than 100,000
fans in 2005, the Cardinals have sold out every game for 2006 and have
established a waiting list for season tickets.
The Cardinals are one of the NFL's oldest and least
successful franchises with a record of 451 wins and 648
losses, a .413 winning percentage that is only better than the Atlanta
Falcons (.408), New Orleans Saints (.401), and Tampa Bay Buccaneers
(.393). The Cardinals have called Chicago, St. Louis and Phoenix home
since their beginning in 1920.
In 1944, The Cardinals and Steelers combined their teams because of a
shortage of players due to WWII. "Card Pitt" as they were known split
their home games between Chicago and Forbes Field, going 0-10.
The Steelers last visit to Arizona was on November 30, 1997, a 26-20
Overtime victory for the Steelers.
Under the scheduling formula, the Steelers will visit Arizona again
during the 2007 regular season.
