Pittsburgh
Steelers 2006 Home Schedule & Game
Tickets:
Tickets for Pittsburgh Steelers
games at Heinz Field are THE most coveted in Pittsburgh and the
country. With 65,000 seats, a loyal base of season ticket holder and a
fan base of millions, they can be among the hardest to get in the NFL.
Every May the Steelers hold a lottery for a approximately 2,000
individual tickets to each game for members of it's decades long season
ticket waiting list. While some get lucky, most others are
left scrambling to get tickets through friends, family, ebay, and
ticket websites like StubHub and TicketLiquidator.
This season's home schedule is highlighted by games against AFC West
powerhouse Kansas City Chiefs and an AFC Championship game rematch
against the Denver Broncos in addition to traditional AFC North Rivals,
the Cleveland Browns, Baltimore Ravens and Cincinnatti Bengals.
Tickets for the season opening matchup against the Miami Dolphins on
Thursday, September 7 will be in high demand as the Steelers kick-off
their defense of the Super Bowl XL crown.
Tickets to pre-season Steelers games can be a great opportunity for
loyal fans to see their beloved team at a reasonable price.
This year's pre-season schedule at Heinz Field includes the
Minnesota Vikings on August 19, and the Carolina Panthers on August 31.
Date
Opponent (Time)
8/19
Minnesota
Vikings (Pre-Season, 8PM)
The
Pittsburgh Steelers return to the Heinz Field turf for the first time
since December 11, 2005 in the 1st of two home pre-season games. The
Minnesota Vikings are preparing for a difficult NFC Central by going
back to the future with Brad Johnson at QB. Pittsburgh-native QB Mike
McMahon is sure to be on the field for the Vikings.
See Vikings Steelers photos on flickr.
See Vikings Steelers videos on YouTube.
8/31
Carolina
Panthers (Pre-Season, 7:30 PM)
The
Steelers final
pre-season game is a Thursday night tune up against Week 15 road
opponent, the Carolina Panthers.
9/7
Miami Dolphins (Season Opener,
8:30 PM)
Thursday
night in the
first NBC
regular season telecast, the Steelers open Super Bowl title defense
against the Miami Dolphins. Rascal Flatts will play the
annual
NFL Kickoff concert in Pittsburgh while P. Diddy kicks and
Martina
McBride will sing the national anthem.
9/24
Cincinnatti Bengals (1:00 PM)
The
Steelers took 2 of 3
last year in
this rejuvenated AFC North rivalry game. Passions will be
high,
especially if Carson Palmer is at QB for the Bengals in Heinz Field.
It's Who Dey vs. We Dey for the 1st time in '06.
10/15
Kansas City Chiefs (4:15 PM)
Penn
State's Larry
Johnson comes to
town with what promises to be one of the AFC's most potent rushing
attacks. Anticipation is high for this mid-October matchup.
11/5
Denver Broncos (4:15 PM)
Rumor has
it that this
rematch of the
AFC Championship was originally slated for the Week 1 opener, but that
the Broncos felt that the wounds were "to fresh" to have to come to
Pittsburgh so soon.
11/12
New Orleans Saints (1:00 PM)
Reggie Bush
wouldn't be
coming to
Pittsburgh if the Houston Texans had done the wise thing and
made
him the #1 Draft Pick. Perhaps the least anticipated regular season
game on the home schedule.
12/3
Tampa Bay Buccaneers (1:00 PM)
12/7
Cleveland Browns (8:00 PM)
Will the
Browns be
better in '06?
With 4 days of rest between Tampa Bay and this NFL Network game against
Cleveland, this game promises to be a tough test for the Steelers no
matter what.
12/24
Baltimore Ravens (1:00 PM)
Take one of
the most
heated rivalries
in the NFL, add Steeler killer Steve McNair, put the game on Christmas
Eve near the end of the season and you have one of the most anticipated
games on the schedule. (P.S. The Steelers did not allow a point in
their Christmas Eve game against Cleveland last year.)
Heinz
Field is
the capital of Steeler Nation. Opened in 2001,
Heinz Field is
located adjacent to the site of Three Rivers Stadium. Rabid
black
and gold clad fans, open ended design (facing downtown and the Point)
and unpredictable winds have given the Steelers one of the biggest home
field advantages in the National Football League. Heniz Field
is
the 4th field that the Steelers have called home in Pittsburgh, after
Forbes Field, Pitt Stadium and Three Rivers Stadium.
The stadium seating at Heinz Field is notable for its bright "gold"
color which because of the open South End Zone, is visibile to much of
downtown Pittsburgh. Two rotundas capped by canvas canopies frame
either side of the stadium.
Luxury seating in Heinz Field is plentiful, with club seating
concourses on the east and west sides. Several hundred new club
seats were added to Heinz Field's northwest corner for this season.
The Coca-Cola Great Hall on the Stadium's east concourse is a
showcase for Steelers memorabilia including th Super Bowl XL trophy,
and is a great gathering place for fans before and after home games.
It's kind of like your neighbors basement, you know the one that put
down astroturf, painted it to look like the Steelers home field and put
his memprabilia on the walls, except this is THE Steelers home field.
Only the black and gold clad will be among friends at Heinz Field.
Watch for fans collecting in the south entry plaza beneath
the
main scoreboard, or along the railings of the twin rotunda's that guard
the corners of the South end zone. Be aware that seating Heinz Field's
upper deck of the north end zone is bleacher style.
From
the Steelers
staying at the Gateway Center Hilton the night before the game to the
Rooney's walking to the stadium from their North Side home, a Steeler
home game is filled with tradition, and part of that tradition is
tailgating.
Parking lot
tailgating at Heinz Field: As in much of the NFL, that
tailgating tradition is in a time of
transition. Parcel by parcel, the sea of parking that surrounded Three
Rivers Stadium that had RV's lining up the night before to transform
the North Side into a game day Mardi Gras is being developed parcel by
parcel. Now, most parking adjacent to Heinz Field is sold on
a
prepaid basis, and fans are permitted to park in a single space, first
come-first served.
This
year, surface parking close to Heinz Field continues to dwindle, with
the Red
Parking Lot replaced by the new North Shore Parking Garage. Tailgating
in the gold pre-paid lot closest to the Coca-Cola Great Hall, which
includes a band, will continue to be lively as will the areas between
the West End Bridge and Heinz Field.
Black and Gold
Tailgate at Station Square: Station Square across from
Heinz Field on the south shore of the Monongahela offers the Black and
Gold Tailgate in the Bessemer Court restaurant prior to every home
game. Surrounded by Joe's Crab Shack, Hard Rock Cafe, Red
Star Tavern and Bar Louie, the festivities include beer specials and
local bands to fire up the crowd. Fans can then take the Gateway
Clipper shuttle directly to Heinz Field/
As surface parking continues to dwindle, it is being replaced with a
lively restaurant and bar scene. The
Clark
Bar and Grill and the restaurants along General Robinson, paricularly
Hi-Tops adjacent to
PNC Park overflow on game days.
Pittsburgh International Airport (PIT) is served
by USAirways, Southwest Airlines, Airtran, American, Continental,
Delta, JetBlue, Midwest, Northwest, United, and USA 3000.
The Airport is $30 cab ride from downtown. Meet cabs outside baggage
claim .
Public
Transportation: The Port Authority offers frequent bus
service to downtown from the airport aboard it's 28X Airport Flyer
Service. The fare from the airport to downtown is $2.25 one
way.

Parking:
Prepaid Parking. A high percentage of the parking
immediately
adjacent to Heinz Field is sold on a prepaid basis.
Occasionally,
these parking passes for the "gold" or "red" parking passes will be
resold on StubHub and e-bay because of the proximity to Heinz Field and
game day atmosphere in the parking lot. Pre-sold parking from Alco
Parking is $380 for the season for these lots, with "gold" parking in
Lots 1 & 2 reserved for season ticket holders.
Steelers
Day-of-game parking
is available in several smaller parking areas between Heinz Field and
the West End Bridge, west of the stadium. East of the
stadium,
surface parking and the North Shore and Allegheny Center Mall parking
garage on General Robinson Street are available to fans and adjacent to
the PNC Park area bars and restaurants. Parking on the North
Shore can be expensive, as much as $20 and more on game days.
Many fans choose downtown parking
which is $5 for
the entire day at 13 downtown locations. Fans that choose not
to
walk to Heinz Field from downtown may take a shuttle operated by the
Port Authority for $1.25 each way.
Station Square
Parking is
available for $8 on the south shore of the Monongahela River with
shuttle service provided by the Gateway Clipper Fleet for $5.
Public
Transportation:
The Port Authority of Allegheny County offers 4 regional Steelers
shuttle routes in addition to regular weekend service. Each
route
will have 4 trips before and after each home game, beginning 2 hours
and 30 minutes prior to kick-off, and 20 minutes after the end of the
game,
The Port Authority also operates the fan shuttles from downtown and
strip district parking areas.
In addition, fans arriving from the South Hills may use the T,
Pittsburgh's light-rail and subway service.
Pittsburgh's downtown hotels are
full of Steelers fans on game weekends. The Hilton at Gateway
Center has long been the choice of the Steelers the night before home
games. The Renaissance offers dramatic views of the Allegheny River,
PNC Park and Heinz Field. The Sheraton Station Square is
right in the middle of game day action. New this year on the
North Shore is the Springhill Suites by Marriott, adjacent to PNC Park
and a long touchdown pass down General Robinson from Heinz Field.
Heinz
Field's location on the North Shore adjacent to downtown is close to
dozen's of restaurants. Fans going to the game can get $25 of
